Rivers has been known to be the pioneer in the women stand-up comedy. She was originally from Brooklyn and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Barnard College. She started playing the 1960’s comedy club scene with others who became famous personalities themselves like Woody Allen, Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor and George Carlin. She received her claim to fame in 1983 when she became the regular guest on the popular TV ’Tonight’s Show’ with Johnny Carson. However, when she started hosting a competing late night show, she drifted apart from Johnny Carson and that rift stayed until he died in 2005.
She then moved on to host the day time show called “the Joan Rivers Show’ and has recently found her niche in the awards circuit when she started reporting fashion faux pas of the famous Hollywood celebrities.
